How to prevent Google from indexing content
03/04/2013 16:20:45
In general, we all want to be on Google. We want to be the first, the best, the favorite. However, some pages are not intended to be indexed and some are much better off search engines. Consider, for example, your secure pages or hidden pages. If you don’t tell Google that these pages shouldn’t be indexed and available on its results pages, they will be!
If, for one reason or another, you want to remove a page from Google or prevent it from being indexed, you can do it in 2 different ways. The first is to create a Google Webmaster Tools account and define in the settings which page to keep off search engines. The second is more simple. It simply requires you to add a small line of code to your pages to tell Google that the page shouldn’t be found on the search results pages.
First, go on the page on your website that is to be removed from Google. Here are the steps to follow:
Click Add Module
Choose the Script module
The script module contains 3 fields. Find the one who mentions the <Head> and </ head> tags. Be careful to choose this field for this approach to works In the <Head <and </ head>, copy/paste the following script:
<META NAME="robots" CONTENT="noindex">
Add the module and publish your website online!
There you go! All done! Now you need to wait until Google scans your site and take the change into account. This may take a few days or a few weeks, depending on how often you publish your site. The more often a site is published, the more often Google scans it for updates. You can force the hand of Google a little by resubmitting your website’s URL for indexing
