5 tips for sending email newsletters

Are you looking for a way to improve your relationship with your customers or simply visitors? Or are you trying to find new ways to reach them?

If so, then it may be time to think about sending newsletters to your customers. If you have either WebSelf’s Enterprise or E-Commerce plans, you can use the "Newsletter subscription" module to collect the e-mail address of visitors (voluntarily of course). We partnered up with Mailjet for the collection of adresses. You can use this tool to create and sent your newsletter.

But before sending a newsletter, there are a few points that you should consider. In this editorial I will give you a few tips to help you along the way.

1) It is important to make sure that newsletter’s content is closely related to your field or business activities. Always keep in mind that you have visitors because they are interested in what your website has to offer. If they subscribed to your newsletter, it wanted to receive updates on the given topic. That is why you should verify before publishing that you meet the needs and interests of your subscribers.

2) Your newsletter should contain high-quality, relevant articles with good advice. Text is the main content of your newsletter and has to appeal to your readers while providing information. To be convincing and professional, you must make sure that your article does not contain spelling or grammar mistakes.

3) Avoid the use of too much images. Text is always more useful. For the simple reason, that most of the time, images will not be shown automatically by programs. Even if pictures draw attention or help illustrate your points, they only come second. When images are missing, programs can still understand the main content and quickly identify the topics (content articles, product promotion).

4) If you use images or videos in your newsletter make sure they are either copyright-free or that you obtained the license for it. In the latter case you could pay a small amount for the license. Otherwise it will be considered plagiarism. If you need photos or videos, there are sites like Fotolia that offer a vast image database.

5) Once your newsletter has contents, images, a nice catchy title and links pointing to your site, remember that the newsletter is also meant to generate traffic to your website. An important step is often overlooked: Double-check your work to make sure EVERYTHING is in order. Furthermore, all newsletter-tools include an option to make double-checking your work easier. So why not use it. You could also test your newsletter on several email accounts (Outlook, Gmail, Yahoo ...) and in different formats (PCs, tablets, smartphones ...).

I hope these tips will help you write and publish your newsletter.
